Country Farm Marquee Wedding | North Yorkshire | Tom & Kate

Tom & Kate were married at St Boltoph’s Church, Carlton, North Yorkshire, followed by a farm style country marquee wedding reception in September 2019. As a professional wedding photographer based in Yorkshire, it was an honour to capture their photos of this beautiful example of a rural wedding setting. DIY personality unique to the couple was used within the marquee – perfect to capture all of those detail wedding photos - with haybales for drinks tables, a tractor wheel as the seating plan, and farmers market slips for place name settings. As I was working as a second wedding photographer, alongside the main photographer, for Tom & Kate’s country wedding, I spent the morning photographing the groomsmen at Tom & Kate’s farmhouse (complete with Tom’s sheepdogs!), before we made the journey via tractor to the nearby pub, The Bluebell Inn, and then on to the church.

North Yorkshire Wedding Day Traditions

The village church wedding ceremony was followed by the Yorkshire wedding tradition of the newlyweds untying the lynch gate which the local children had tied up during the ceremony. This makes for a great wedding photo, before the confetti is thrown! The wedding party & guests then walked across the road with a drink in hand to the marquee wedding reception with a country farm theme before the wedding formal photos started on a tower of haybales.

The stunning setting of the rolling North York Moors behind was perfect for the outdoor drinks reception as guests mingled in and out of the wedding marquee – adorned with impressive wedding flowers featuring pinks, blues, & pheasant feathers.

Why have a second photographer?

A second photographer is a great service to add to your wedding day coverage, if you’d like to tell the morning getting ready story from both perspectives of the couple getting married. Your second photographer can come along to wherever you’d like them to be too – for example I went along with the groomsmen to the pub to capture this before heading to the church for Tom & Kate’s wedding. Having two photographers at your wedding also offers a different perspective during the ceremony - a second photographer will most likely shoot their images from the back of the ceremony venue, giving you a different perspective on your ceremony to tell the story of the day more thoroughly) .

Lastly, hiring two photographers for your wedding day gives more opportunity for candid photos during the wedding reception, especially when the main photographer is co-ordinating group & family photos.
